The Archives Team chronicles the life of the Church in text and pictures. In November 2015 we moved into the Digital Age, creating the yearly archives on computer, and filling three-inch binders with the printed pages, for those who prefer to curl up with a good old-fashioned paper book.
In 2020 we finished the long task of digitizing Hope’s early archives, partly to protect against damage to the originals, and partly to make it easier to locate archived information. We have created one Acrobat PDF document for each year, with a few extra PDF documents for special events. A chronological Table of Contents has been placed at the beginning of each document, listing topics covered in the Archive, with the page numbers on which those topics are discussed. The page numbers are hyperlinked to the Archive pages: click on the page number to skip directly to the appropriate page, or on “Back to Table of Contents” in the upper right corner of each page to return to the Contents page. The reader can also click on the SEARCH function of the PDF Reader to search on a keyword or phrase.

We are now in the process of creating a Master Table of Contents (including all the Tables of Contents from all the Annual Archives, with links to the proper books and pages), and a Master Timeline of Major Events (reducing each year to two written pages, with links again to the appropriate books and pages).
A few important videos (e.g., merger service, installations of pastors) have been saved in the Archives/Videos folder on the Hope server.
The Need
Photos! The Archive Team consists of two people – less than 1/1000th of the congregation. We take photos of those events we attend and the missions we love – but what about the events we don’t attend, and the 70 or so missions in which we are not engaged? Twenty years from now, when people flip through the archives, will your ministry team be represented in pages of color photos, or just a couple of paragraphs in black and white? Will future readers find images of people laughing as they stuff cancer bears or plarn mats or sew quilts? Of golf scramble players trying for a hole in one? Outreach teams planning exciting new initiatives, or bible study groups discussing scripture? Kathryn would like to deputize all of you as part-time archivists.
What's the time commitment?
You won’t have to attend any boring meetings, or spend time at events which you would not normally attend. But at the events that do interest you – take out your phone, open the camera app, and take a couple of photos! Don’t worry if your phone is an older version – or if your photos are overexposed or underexposed or not centered artistically – that’s why Photoshop was invented!
Just email your photos to kathrynaclement@yahoo.com, along with the name of the event or ministry you’re attending. Kathryn will be happy to lighten or darken or recenter them as required – and she will be sure to give a photo credit to the Deputy Archivist!
