On Our Own

This group is a ministry of individuals that are ‘On Our Own’ including single, widowed or divorced, and welcome caregivers with spouses not able to be socially active and those that are separated from their families.  Our purpose is to provide friendship, support, and fellowship through our monthly group meetings, events and social activities and support many missions in the church.

Our major service project has been providing Snack Packs for local elementary schools.  We currently support the Stanton-Weirsdale Elementary School. This includes handling items donated, shopping for items needed and packing and delivering them to the school.  They are distributed to the many needy children to take home for the weekend.  Eighty packs are assembled each month of the school year at 9 am prior to our monthly meeting.  In addition, we participate in many other endeavors and support many other missions and functions of the church and community.
Items needed for snack packs:
Peanut butter
Jelly
Pop Tarts
Small juice drink
Pudding
Vienna sausages
Fruit cup
Applesauce
Cookies
Cheese crackers
Raisins
Fruit snacks
Gallon-sized freezer bags
All in individual packaging, and no glass containers, please.
Who can join?
Anyone on their own - single, widowed or divorced, and welcome caregivers with spouses not able to be socially active and those that are separated from their families. New attendees will always receive a warm welcome.

What’s the time commitment?
At our monthly meetings, which are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 10:30am in the fellowship hall, we have a business meeting, plan future activities and include a presentation or activity of interest. We play Samba weekly and Rummicube bi-weekly at local recreation centers.
